Dear diagnostic radiology medical physics colleagues,
The EUTEMPE-RX consortium is proud to announce the start of the second run of its set of modules designed to help Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology physicists acquire CPD and achieve Medical Physics Expert status. This email announces the first module MPE01 - the LEADERSHIP MODULE. This module will help you acquire the knowledge, skills and competences necessary to exercise a leadership role within the profession in your own country and in Europe. The module will consist of two phases: an online phase followed by a face-to-face phase. The online phase will start 1 November 2016, whilst the face-to-face phase will be held in Prague 6– 10 February 2017. The online phase will be asynchronous so that participants would not need to take time off their clinical duties. Each presentation during the face-to-face will be presented by a European leader in the area. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the major issues facing the profession directly with European leaders of the profession (CJ Caruana, J Damilakis, S Christofides, S Evans, H Bosmans, V Tsapaki) and other young leaders like yourself. The participants would also be updated with the latest EU directives and guidelines impacting the role to ensure they are at the forefront of these developments. Module participants would be encouraged to put forward the issues they are facing in their own country as case studies.

Typical case studies discussed:
- Case Study 1: Up to now there have only been Medical Physics Experts in Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine in your country. However, EU Directive 2013/59/EURATOM (the 'BSS') has recognized the importance of an expanded role of the MPE also in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. You are having discussions about this issue with your healthcare authorities. One representative from the Ministry of Health tells you: "I cannot understand why Medical Physicists are required in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology as you don't have the high doses you have in Radiation Oncology" How would you tackle it?
- Case study 2: There are 5 chest radiography rooms in your hospital each run by a different team of radiographers. You have noticed that one of the rooms is repeatedly exceeding the local DRLs which you have established. How would you tackle it? You know that the team of radiographers don't like people investigating their techniques.
- Case study 3: You are the head of the Medical Physics department at a large hospital which is expanding its Diagnostic and Interventional facilities owing to a large population increase in the region. You want to employ additional medical physics staff but the human resources manager tells you that you have enough staff. How would you tackle it?
- Case Study 4: There is a need to create a higher awareness of the role of Medical Physicists among health policy makers, other healthcare professionals, patients and the general public. You have been asked by the President of your local association to create a plan for raising the profile of Medical Physicists working in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology in your country. Describe briefly the present situation in your country and discuss a plan to raise the profile of the profession amongst these groups.
